Who are we

This website was created by DKFI parents to provide the greater DKFI community with a resource to find current information, messaging, and outreach opportunities for DKFI parents, staff, community members, the press, and legislators on how they can become involved, reach out, and be active as we work to find a viable solution for the future of Dora Kennedy French Immersion School

What we stand for

We ask Board Members to work with our community and PGCPS administration to ensure the best solution; a solution based on data and with consideration to the well-being of our students, teachers and staff.  The solution should also be long term with clear and truthful information. Our children, their teachers and school staff as well as our entire community deserve data driven planning that is communicated with respect and integrity.

We are not just a “Program”, we are a community of Prince George’s County families, whose children, staff, and teachers deserve the same learning spaces as neighborhood schools.

  • We believe that every student in PGCPS deserves access to an environment that is conducive to learning and supports the physical and emotional well-being of the student. It is our duty as parents to ensure that decisions made for our students support these basic standards.
  • We have been disappointed by PGCPS leadership’s handling of DKFI. Both the communication of DKFI’s move to Kenmoor and the presentation of data to support this move have been greatly lacking.
  • We are requesting a true Town Hall meeting with the PGCPS Executive Leadership team where our community can engage in open discussion around the future of DKFI, it’s physical location, and the impact this change may have on the future of the French immersion program.
    • The information presented at the webinar on Monday, February 12th was not robust enough for the community to have confidence in the decision to move DKFI permanently to the Kenmoor space.
    • This should include all relevant facilities and structural assessments of the building, transportation assessments, etc.
  • We request full disclosure of all other available swing spaces that could accommodate DKFI.

What is our goal

In its simplest form, our goal is information sharing.

Our goal is to provide an online presence to augment the ongoing efforts by the DKFI community; the parents, teachers, staff, the PTA, local community members and advocates, and others who would be impacted by the county’s decision to move the school from its current location in Greenbelt , MD, to their selected location in Landover, MD.

We will continue to update this site as the situation evolves, providing more information as it becomes available, and providing more resources for the community to utilize in order to share our concerns with PGCPS leadership and ensure that our voices are heard.
